Receptivity is the Key to selfworth :: Reflections on Venus

There is no doubt that this is the year that the feminine rises, its been a rumbling inside of our bellies, the belly inside of every human on earth. It is after all in the Chinese zodiac the year of the snake, one of the most ancient symbol of the feminine. This symbol that was once revered for its regenerative power, power of transformation, its connection to the earth, magic, and awakening– its connection to the mystery and the cycles of time and nature. In the west, this symbol went underground, was deemed evil and thus forgotten. This force now emerges.

When I use the word ‘rise’ in this context, it is not it does not imply to rise ‘over’ something else. In the age of Pisces our idea of ‘power’ was built in hierarchy. If something were to rise, that must mean that something else must fall, but that is not the case in this new age. As we enter the age of Aquarius, we are reframing our ideas of power, that is not defined as having power ‘over’ something, but instead being so completely sovereign that nothing has power over you. When you are that sovereign, you are not motivated by any fear and have no need to control any one around you.

Ultimately, the need to have power ‘over’ comes from fear, that fear promotes a kind of control over others in order to feel safe. We used to believe that our safety came from having control of our external reality, and in most cases, that meant having power over others, meaning, to control others. This connects to the entire concept of master and slave— an American tradition but truly a human phenomenon. This practice is global, and its part of a consciousness that we are shifting out of, collectively. It is a consciousness that was shaped by hierarchies. The age of Aquarius is rooted in the energetics of the circle— where everyone gets a piece of the pie, everyone has access to the center. Hierarchies are built on the structure of the triangle, where we are all vying to get to that one place at the top- only one person can touch that peak. Yet as the age of Aquarius moves into play, we are all beginning to understand what it means to be a part of something, a collective movement. And this shift happens when we all begin to have our own connection to source, where we don’t need outside influences and energies to tell us what to do, instead we go inward, we commune with the stars, with the ancients, and we uncover the answers ourselves.

Those answers live in the mystery, they live in the dark places where one cannot fully see them in the material world. That communion is energetic, its part of the flow, and is of the feminine. This is what the emergence of the feminine means, and this emergence is happening through us, not to us. The emergence of the feminine does not mean that women are suddenly going to take over all the positions men once held— it means that the “natural mystic blowin through the air” as Bob Marley put it is starting to be seen, felt, and venerated as very real. It is understanding that the emotion, the vision, the imagination, and the intuition of humanity is just as ‘real’ and just as ‘important’ as the material- the rational, the measured, and the controlled.

It was Albert Einstein himself that said, “Intuition should be our guide and rationality its faithful servant, we have built a society that honors the servant and forgotten the gift.” The rise of the feminine is the release of this potential, and the recalibration of our internal landscape. Its understanding our internal landscape is just as valuable as our external landscape, and in fact completely governed by it.

So how does Venus relate to all of this? Well its Venus season, the season of Taurus. The flowers are blooming and Earth is singing her beautiful song. Venus represents the receptive aspect of our beings, the feminine virtue. Women embody this yes, as we carry the receptive yoni vessel, but this is also an energy- that every single one of us carries within us.

Our world is shifting, we are at a great changing of the ages. That is why all of our systems are breaking down, its a cosmic process that must happen as we shift frequencies. At every changing of the ages throughout the dawn of time there was a great reboot. Its a change in the larger energetics, of how things work, of the frequency that permeates the time. We are moving from one world to another world, and through that process the feminine virtue inside of us all begins to rise. We see it reflected in the year of the snake, and we can observe it through the archetype of Venus inside of ourselves.

Venus rests. Venus allows. Venus yields. Venus enjoys herself, she delights in the senses, she basks in the sun. Venus is silent in space, she opens to the rustling of the wind, of the luminescence of the sky. Venus TAKES LIFE IN. Venus ENJOYS herself. EN- JOY, through this process, she is IN JOY. Venus opens to the natural mystic, the frequency of love that permeates every living thing. That vibrant frequency that moves through the energy of time and space that animates all living energy on the planet. She basks in that frequency of life, and the Beauty around her to observe that frequency. Venus receives, and while she allows herself to receive, she fills her cup.

When one fills their cup, they begin to allow themselves to feel worthy of that, meaning, they value their own being and life force to give that to themselves. Our previous paradigm was very Mars dominant, or Yang dominant- everyone on planet earth- we were told to grind, work, hustle to absolute exhaustion. There is no receptivity in grinding. Its an output frequency. Its true, yes, one can find a certain amount of gratification from pushing to make things happen in the world but when there is no respite, when there is no time to do no-thing or to have authentic input— It wears deeply on our sense of self-worth because we are not in a receptive mode, and receptivity is the key to self worth.

And self-worth is what ultimately creates authentic integrity.

As a healer, guide, and spiritual coach I can say one of the core issues I have seen over and over in my clients has been a sense of diminished self-worth. What does this look like? Well, it looks like not valuing yourself enough to give yourself what you need in order to be fulfilled, calm, and happy. Pretty simple as that. The age of Pisces was riddled with the energetics of codependency in relationships. This meant that one or both people will sacrifice themselves in order for the other person to not be in pain, as subtle or distorted as those energetics may be. That is what Pisces rules, martyrdom. As we exit this era, we are starting to remember what it means to be sovereign. Sovereignty is no-one and no-thing having power over us, that means, we are not paralyzed by the pain or needs of others. That is having energetic boundaries and ultimately, that is what creates true worth. Because if you are constantly giving all of your life force energy to those around you in order to keep them alive, you are almost never in any kind of authentic space to receive. And when you are not receiving, you are sending yourself the signal that you are not worth it. It perpetuates old toxic dynamics but most of all it diminishes ones own identity. It wears away at your internal voice, and dulls all instinct. When one is codependent one does not know how to protect oneself. Creating the energetic boundary, creates the boundary of worth which then develops a true container so one can adequately receive.

It may all sound kind of complex but its really very simple. As we lean into our Venus energy, and begin to allow ourselves to languish in the delights of mother Earth this beautiful Taurus season, we send ourselves the signal we are worth it. When we feel we are worth it, everything else gets better. We start to trust our inner voice, we start to honor our truth, we start to develop authentic energetic boundaries, and a new power emerges.

So I challenge you, open to the Goddess this month, see what you find. She waits for you, in pleasure, in delight, in true and authentic enjoyment.
